Four Things That Actually Move The Truck
Honest geography, honestly explained — the factors behind every response window we quote on the phone.
1. Bridges & tunnels at rush hour
A North Vancouver emergency at 4:30 PM on a Friday faces the Lions Gate and Second Narrows at their worst; a Richmond call crosses the Oak or Arthur Laing at the same time. Our dispatch quotes the window the traffic actually allows — which is why the same job that runs 35 minutes at 11 AM can honestly be 75 minutes at 5 PM. We would rather quote the truth than win the call with a number the bridge will betray.
2. The first cold snap
Every November, Metro Vancouver's first real sub-zero night wakes up twenty years of deferred furnace maintenance all at once. Furnaces that ran fine in October fail on the first cold night, frozen hose bibs split, and every contractor in the region runs at capacity for about ten days. If your furnace is 15+ years old, the smartest call you can make is a September tune-up — booked in the quiet season, not in the queue behind a hundred no-heat emergencies.
3. Rain — and what it does to drains
North Vancouver records over 1,700 mm of rain a year, and the whole region's storm drains, perimeter drains and sewer lines feel it. October and November atmospheric rivers push water into clay and cast-iron drain lines that have been quietly root-invaded for a decade — which is why drain emergencies cluster with the weather, and why camera inspections before the wet season save basements every year in Delta, New Westminster and the North Shore.
4. Permits filed in our name
Gas-fit and heat pump permits are filed with Technical Safety BC or the municipality before work begins — in our name, as the law requires. Most issue in days, but Surrey, Vancouver and Burnaby each have their own counter rhythms, and a permit-required job honestly takes a day longer than a cash-job quote that skips the permit entirely. That day is your warranty's legal backbone: the paper trail that proves the work was done to code, by a licensed contractor, and is on record if you ever sell the home.
The pattern behind all four: we quote the window we can actually keep. A dispatcher promising fifteen minutes to win your call and arriving in ninety serves nobody — not your flooded bathroom, not our schedule, and not the review you will rightly leave. Response times across our seventeen cities run from 30 minutes in the core to 120 in the Valley, and every one of those numbers is honest. If a technician is closer than we quoted, you get the good news by text; if the bridge wins, you hear it from us before the window closes, with a new ETA and the option to keep priority when the next truck frees up.
