Who Pays What · The Three Layers

The Programs Behind the $16,000

“Up to $16,000” is never one cheque — it’s three programs that stack on one eligible heat pump project. Here’s what each layer covers, who qualifies, and exactly what our office files for you.

Province of BC

CleanBC Better Homes

The provincial retrofit program and usually the largest single layer — built to move BC homes off fossil-fuel heating onto high-efficiency electric heat pumps.

What it covers

  • Heat pump fuel-switch incentives — roughly $2,000–$8,000 depending on what you’re switching from (oil pays the most)
  • $1,000 on a qualifying heat pump water heater
  • Windows, insulation and air-sealing incentives
  • Income-qualified streams with larger top-ups

Who qualifies

  • BC primary-residence homeowners
  • Biggest amounts for leaving oil, propane and natural gas behind
  • Pre-approval required before equipment purchase

We file it for you

  • EnerGuide assessment booking where required
  • Model-eligibility check against program lists
  • Pre-approval submitted before you buy
  • Final claim with receipts & photos after install
Your Utility

FortisBC

The utility-side layer: electrification top-ups that stack on CleanBC in FortisBC-served communities, plus efficiency offers where gas equipment remains the right choice for your home.

What it covers

  • Electrification top-up — about $3,000 on an eligible heat pump switch
  • Efficiency offers on high-efficiency gas furnaces and boilers
  • Heat pump water heater incentives alongside CleanBC

Who qualifies

  • Homes on FortisBC electricity or gas across the South Coast and Fraser Valley
  • Note: Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver and West Vancouver are BC Hydro electricity territory — the FortisBC top-up doesn’t stack there

We file it for you

  • Account and address verification
  • Top-up stacking on your CleanBC application
  • Post-install documentation and follow-up
Government of Canada

Canada Greener Homes

The federal layer — a grant on eligible retrofits plus the 0% Canada Greener Homes Loan that bridges the gap while your provincial and utility cheques are processed.

What it covers

  • Up to $5,000 in grants on eligible retrofits
  • 0% loan up to $40,000 over 10 years for deeper upgrades
  • Stacks on top of provincial and utility programs

Who qualifies

  • Owner-occupied homes, primary residences
  • Works for houses, townhouses and eligible in-unit condo upgrades

We file it for you

  • Registration and quote documentation
  • Post-install verification paperwork
  • Coordination with your CleanBC and utility claims

How the Paperwork Works

Rebate programs pay the person who files the right forms in the right order. You’re looking at that person’s job description — four steps, and only one of them needs you home.

Assessment

Free rebate assessment at your home — we confirm your fuel, equipment and address, then map which programs you actually qualify for. No obligation, no pressure.

Install

Licensed install with permits pulled and program-eligible models only — the guesswork that quietly voids claims never enters your project.

We file

Our office completes every application — CleanBC, FortisBC, federal, municipal — with the receipts, photos and forms each program demands, in the order they demand it.

You get paid

Cheques arrive made out to you, the homeowner. We track every claim and chase it until it lands — most arrive within six to twelve weeks of the final filing.

Honest Ranges · No Ceiling-Promising

What Different Projects Typically Get Back

Not every job carries the headline number. Here are the realistic ranges by service — and the notes that explain why the heat pump stack towers over everything else.

Typical 2026 rebate ranges by service for BC homeowners, with notes on what drives each amount
Service Typical rebate range What drives the amount
Heat pump installfuel switch · ducted or ductless $3,000 – $16,000 The big stack — CleanBC, FortisBC and federal layers combine on eligible fuel switches. Oil and propane conversions sit at the top; income-qualified streams can push higher. That’s where “up to $16,000” lives.
Ductless mini-splitsingle & multi-zone $1,000 – $8,000 Qualifies where the mini-split becomes your primary heat source. In-unit condo installs claim the smaller in-unit amounts; whole-home switches from baseboards or fossil fuel claim toward the top.
Furnace replacementhigh-efficiency gas $0 – $1,200 A same-fuel gas swap isn’t the headline play — the programs reward switching off fossil fuel. Limited seasonal offers and FortisBC efficiency programs can still pay a little. We price the heat-pump switch side by side so you see both.
Hot water tanktank swap or heat pump water heater $500 – $1,000 The $1,000 CleanBC offer on qualifying heat pump water heaters is the one to ask about; standard high-efficiency tank swaps get smaller efficiency-based incentives on eligible models.
Windows & doorsdouble → triple glazing $500 – $2,000 per package Real comfort and energy value, but modest next to the heat pump stack. Utility and municipal incentives vary by address — we confirm current amounts for your home at booking.

Ranges reflect typical 2026-era outcomes across our Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley service area, not guarantees. Program budgets, rates and eligibility change through the year — every number we quote is re-verified in writing at booking and confirmed by program rules at install.

Straight Answers · Before You Ask

Rebate Questions, Answered Honestly

The six questions Metro Vancouver homeowners actually ask us about CleanBC, FortisBC and federal money — with the fine print other contractors skip.

Yes. CleanBC runs income-qualified streams that add meaningful top-ups for qualifying households — on an eligible heat pump switch they can add several thousand dollars on top of the standard stack. We check your household against the current thresholds during your free assessment and file the income-qualified paperwork too if you qualify. See our income-qualified rebate guide for how the streams work.

Townhouses usually claim the full stack when the new system serves your own unit — your strata may need to approve the exterior condenser placement. Condos can claim for in-unit upgrades such as a ductless heat pump or heat pump water heater serving your strata lot, with strata approval on file where common property is touched. We have filed strata claims across Metro Vancouver and know the paperwork pattern per building type.

The CleanBC structure is built for primary residences. Rentals and secondary properties mostly route through utility-side programs such as BC Hydro and FortisBC offers, and some landlords qualify for different efficiency incentives. Tell us how the property is used at booking and we will map the programs that actually apply — we never file applications we expect to bounce.

Pre-approval typically takes two to four weeks, and it must be granted before any equipment is purchased — buying the right model one day early can void the claim. After the install, our office files the final paperwork and most cheques arrive within six to twelve weeks. We track every claim and chase it until it is paid.

Apply first, always. The sequence that protects your money is: EnerGuide assessment where required, then program pre-approval, then the equipment purchase and install, then the final application with receipts and photos. We sequence the whole chain for you at booking, so the order is never the reason a rebate dies.

Programs adjust budgets, rates and eligibility through the year, and limited-time bonuses appear and disappear with the seasons. That is why every figure on this page is an estimate, why we re-verify your numbers in writing at booking, and why final amounts are confirmed by the program rules in effect at the time of your install. If a program pauses, we re-map your project onto whatever is live — our CleanBC rebates 2026 guide covers the current structure in depth.
